Home Maintenance Product Pro-Tips

Doing your own home maintenance can be a big money saver! While Copeland installs roofs, gutters, and siding, our services don’t extend to maintaining them. Many upkeeps are easily done with the right tools. Here are some helpful products you can use to preserve the life of your home. Please note that we’re not endorsing any brand or carrier of these products.

  • A set of tools to address a variety of needs within your home - hammer, screwdriver, pliers, drill, and tape measure are a good place to start! You may add more to them as you go along for a particular project, but a good tool foundation will cover a wide range of issues that will come up.

  • A good, sturdy ladder will be invaluable for many different things around your home. You’ll be able to access many more areas of your home with the help of a ladder. Ladders of different sizes, or a ladder that can adjust to different heights, will help

  • Gutter scoops are also good products to have on hand. Shingle granules, leaves, seeds, and other debris can collect in your gutters. Too much debris can clog or pull on the gutters, making them ineffective. A gutter scoop can help clear the debris out.

  • A pressure washer can be used to clean a variety of places on your home. Many have additional attachments that can be helpful for specific uses. One attachment, in particular, is a hooked hose that can be used to spray out the debris in gutters if gutter scooping isn’t feasible.

  • Binoculars are a product that may seem surprising. But, having a pair on hand can give you a close-up view of areas of your home that may be damaged or need attention that you may not have been able to see with the naked eye. They can help you assess what needs to be done without putting your safety at risk. If you're tech-savvy, a drone with a camera would provide a bird's eye view in much the same way.

  • A tube of caulk is a great product for sealing and waterproofing different places at your house. Gutter leaks, sink and shower seams, or loose flashing are just some of the uses for caulking.

  • Tree trimming tools can help you keep the branches of your trees from damaging your home. Branches that touch your home can cause issues with gutters, windows, shingles, and allow animals easy access to your home.

  • A dedicated scrub brush for each part of your home you’d use it on can be extremely beneficial. It will ensure cross-contamination is kept to a minimum, you can be sure the cleansers are the right one for the job with no residual, and it will help ensure you have a place for everything and everything in its place!

You may not have a need for all these products, but we hope you’ve found the list useful! If there’s a project we can help with that is beyond your abilities, feel free to reach out for an estimate.
